Simple Way to Lose Weight

Food Network star, Alton Brown, followed these lists and lost 50 pounds!  He didn't just eat these foods and nothing else.  He just made sure to eat each food listed the number of times for the list they are on.  Does that make sense?  Like, he made sure he only ate red meat once a week, but he had carrots daily.

I can't imagine following a diet with lots of rules where you can only eat a few things.  That's why I think this is so great!  Oh, and with Alton's extensive food knowledge, I trust that it's healthy.  So, I wanted to post these lists he gave...

First, he said always eat breakfast!  He has a smoothie everyday.  Here's what he does:
24 ounces total, 4 ounces each:
juice
milk
banana
strawberries
peaches-frozen
blueberries-frozen

Put together the night before and keep in fridge.  In the morning, blend it together and enjoy!

All the ingredients have special reasons why he uses those specific fruits.  He didn't just randomly pick any variety of fruits.

So, here are the lists he presented...Eat the following:

Daily:
fruits
whole grains
leafy greens
nuts - almonds especially, 1 to 2 ounces
carrots

3 times a week:
fish
yogurt
broccoli
sweet potato
avocado

Weekly:
red meat
pasta
dessert

Never:
fast food
soda pop
processed meals
canned soups
"diet" anything

He didn't mention anything about poultry or pork which I'm interested to see how often he recommends it, or dairy either.

He also didn't mention what kind of exercise program he did.  I'm sure he did something to workout because he did lose a substantial amount of weight.  I can't imagine it was all just from following these guidelines.  Unless, maybe before he always ate huge portions of totally horrible foods.  But, I wouldn't think so.

I am the master of smoothie making. It's true.
Homemade smoothies are so much better than the ones you can buy at the stores, plus you don't add any of the sugars and concentrates and sorbets like they do. It's just straight fruit.

Don't think I'm a complete dork or idiot, but here are some tips for starters:
Buying frozen fruits, especially berries, is super expensive. The trick is to buy the fruits in bulk when they are in season. Then wash and separate or cut them into smoothie portion. Place the amount for one batch in little baggies (we just used the fold over sandwich ones) and put all in a bigger bag and freeze for use throughout the year. This process may stain your hands.

Don't forget the more obscure fruits. They sometimes bring fun flavors to the conglomeration.

Apples always go in raw and first and every time (if it's a whole fruit smoothie). Apple is your base. If it's a single serving smoothie, use a small small apple, otherwise it will cover the other flavors and it makes it blah.

Citrus doesn't freeze well, but orange is a great thing to add every time. When in season, barely peel (maybe use a knife or potato peeler), leaving most of the white outside on b/c that's where most of the healthy stuff is. Juice and freeze into cubes for the rest of the year.

For the sake of your blades, raw on the bottom, frozen on top, with the frozen berries last. Pour in a little water or juice to get it started.

Bananas take over. If you like that flavor, that's cool, but I recommend a quarter of one per serving.

I grew up in a house where dairy wasn't allowed, but if you want to get your share for the day, add in a serving of yogurt on top of the apple.

There has to be more to the diet. He doesnt say how many calories are allowed or if you can eat bread and other important details. I would love if he would write a book about it so that I could give a try. Weight watchers is great but I don't feel like I am eating enough fruits and veggies when I do it.
